Attention: No gender separation possible in shared flats!

To all students who are interested in a shared flat in one of our halls of residence:
Due to the many changes of tenants in our halls of residence and the very limited living space, we are unfortunately unable to offer all-female or all-male shared flats.

Room assignment guidelines for the residential complexes of the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz

1. Eligibility for Housing

a. Those eligible to live in the student residences managed by the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz (Student Union of the Vorderpfalz region) are primarily enrolled students of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern-Landau, the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies, Germersheim), the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences, and the Worms University of Applied Sciences; priority is given to undergraduate students.

b. Research assistants, doctoral candidates, and trainee teachers are also entitled to a place in the residences if there is insufficient demand from students.

c. Should the demand groups from 1a and 1b not be sufficient to fill all available capacity of the Studierendenwerk, the Studierendenwerk is authorized to allocate up to 15 percent of the total residence capacity to non-students without university affiliation. These tenancies can be extended for a maximum of one semester, provided that student demand does not again exceed supply at the time of allocation. If a room is rented to non-students without university affiliation, a rent based on local market rates must be charged.

2. Application and Processing

The allocation of rooms in the student residences and the assignment of students to individual residences are handled by the Student Housing Department of the Student Union.

Applications for allocation of a room in the student residences must be submitted to the administration by March 1st and September 1st, respectively, for the residences in Landau and Germersheim; and by February 1st and August 1st, respectively, for the residences in Ludwigshafen and Worms, respectively, of each year. The online application process , which can be found on the website of the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz (Student Union of the Vorderpfalz), must be used.

An application is also possible even without having been offered a place at the university. All documents required for allocation must be submitted with the application, including, if applicable, further supporting documents such as a disability certificate or medical certificates.

3. Rental Principles

3.1. Allocation to students with special educational needs. Priority is given to students in their first degree program.

Students who are particularly deserving of support due to their economic, social, or personal circumstances will be given preferential consideration in the student residences.

The following order applies:

a. Students with disabilities
A disability is defined as a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 50%. The disability must be verified by presenting an official identification document.

b. Students with children

c. International students, at least 25% of the residential units (including the fixed quota allocated by the International Office)

d. Students receiving BAföG (German Federal Training Assistance Act)

e. Other students, taking into account the distance between their primary residence and place of study

f. Non-students if there is insufficient student demand

The respective nationality groups should be represented in a balanced ratio. Balanced accommodation within the buildings must be ensured.

The declaration principle applies to BAföG eligibility.

4. Length of Residence

a. The length of residence is 6 semesters.

b. The period of residence can be extended if:

• the applicant is severely disabled, until the end of their studies,

• the applicant is particularly deserving of support due to their specific economic, social, or personal circumstances, for a maximum of 4 semesters.

• the applicant is an international student, for a maximum of 1 semester.

• the applicant is in the final phase of their studies, for a maximum of 2 semesters.

5. Allocation and Selection Procedure

• The allocation of dorm rooms in the residences listed in section 3 is handled by the Student Housing Department of the Student Union.

If, after considering the students with particular deserving support (see section 3), there are more applications than available rooms, the rooms will be allocated by lottery to ensure equal opportunities due to the high demand.
